How a Solo Trip to Lanzarote Changed Everything

From Stuck to Something New: My Solo Journey to Lanzarote

It was 2024, and I didn’t have much to look forward to. I felt like life had stalled.
So — almost on impulse — I booked a solo holiday to Lanzarote. One week, just me.

I was nervous. Full of doubt.
The old voices came creeping back in:
“You can’t do this on your own.”
“What will people think, sitting alone at dinner?”
“Who will you talk to? What are you even going to do there?”

That internal noise? It nearly stopped me from going.

But I Went Anyway

And I’m so glad I did.

I ate out every night, cinema trips solo, walked for miles in the sun, and for the first time in a long time… I felt free.
The heat, the stillness, the space — it gave me clarity.

That trip changed something in me.

Why Spain Feels Like Home

This August, I’m heading back.
Same island. Same hotel. Same time of year. But I’m not the same person.

Now I’m serious about moving to Spain.
The dream isn’t just an escape — it’s a goal I’m building towards.

I need the warmth. Cold weather affects me physically and mentally.
But more than that, I need freedom. A life that feels like mine. A place that feels right in my bones.

There’s No Time to Waste

If I live to the same age my mum passed, I’ve got 26 years left.
If I stay healthy as long as my dad did before MS worsened — maybe 20.

But nothing is promised.

So I’m bringing the dream closer. I’m building it brick by brick — even if it takes years.
Because I refuse to live with regrets.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

I’ll be sharing some photos from that first Lanzarote trip. Not to show off, but to remember the moment it all changed.

Sometimes, booking a solo holiday isn’t running away — it’s the first step towards running your own life.
